Disability Access Plan
Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) which came into effect in October 2004 an access audit, or Access Plan, complied by an experienced auditor can help ensure you do not spend money on property alterations by doing the wrong things or doing the right things to the wrong specifications. It should
check the current level of compliance
identify any existing physical and communication barriers to access
identify how your building's accessibility can be improved in relation to the needs of users
identify any factors that limit the extent to which this is possible (for example in relation the impact on properties with historic, architectural or archaeological interest
Items to consider include car parking, travel routes, internal and external doors, signage, toilet and washroom facilities, alarms and security systems, surfaces and lighting.
