Remote Email Solutions - Internet Roaming

Todays busy mobile executive expects to be in contact with their office wherever they may be. That means they want remote email and intenet facilities

Equipped with a laptop, the ability is there to collect email and download reports and information by plugging into any available network port on the company LAN/WAN, or into a telephone socket to connect direct into the company network or a free ISP.

Whilst the technology works well for these situations, if your company conducts work in different countries or different states, then the call costs can become large. And if the calls are made internationally through a hotel switchboard then they can simply become prohibitive.

When the UK company we were working for were acquired by a French company, this became a real issue. We had teams of workers and Company Directors working in various countries all needing to remain in contact and maintain the flow of work through e-mail challenges.

The solution that was adopted was a service provided by Netaway and it works very simply. They provide a free, simple dialling program that is downloaded onto the users laptop, which in turn gives local rate access numbers for anywhere in the world. The call costs for connection will be billed by the hotel in the normal way (but at local rate rather than a hugely inflated National rate) and in addition a small surcharge is paid to Netaway.

You need to keep a small amount of credit with Netaway, paid for by credit card and they debit a usage charge based on minutes used (just like a pay as you go phone). Each time the user connects they receive an email telling them the outstanding balance.
