3 important ways to help minimise ongoing occupation costs.

  • Open plan environments

If every time a churn project is carried out office partitions need to be moved, with associated electrical and mechanical work, the time and cost elements increase dramatically. Whilst open plan does not work for every culture, where businesses have a high churn ratio, this added flexibility is important.

  • Promote a 'Hot Desk' or desk share culture

Hot desk areas may help reduce the number of people and consequently the number of workstations that need to move in each churn replan. This is another culture change that goes against traditional office occupancy styles in the UK, but the benefits can be far reaching.

  • Plan ahead at fit out

If budget allows, build in some growth in your initial fit out. Add extra power and data/phone points so that you don't need to call in contractors each time you move or add workstations. Whilst it may not always be practical or possible to identify where extra workstations may go, when it is and where budget allows, leave room to expand or reconfigure your office environment.
